My eyes fluttered open, and confusion swam in my head for a second. Until reality seeped back in.

Fainting.

Hudson carrying me into the small bedroom on the tour bus.

My confession.

Breaking apart so badly that he had to put me into bed and hold me.

“Hudson?” I said, rolling over.

My stomach sank.

He was gone.

Flopping onto my back, I let out a weary sigh. He’d left.

Not that I blamed him.

A small knock at the door startled me.

“Hey.” Eva poked her head inside. “Can I come in?”

“Uh, sure.” Dread carved through my stomach.

“How are you feeling?” She perched on the edge of the bed. “Hudson said you were sleeping.”

“He did?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh.” I dropped my gaze, feeling stupid.

“Molly?”

“It’s nothing. I just thought…”

“Oh, oh. No, it isn’t… crap, you think he left you. He didn’t. Actually, he’s been in here the whole time.”

“He has?”

She nodded, smiling. “Texted Rafe to tell us not to disturb you and everything. He just came out about ten minutes ago to get a drink and go to the bathroom.”

Relief slammed into me, and Eva chuckled.

“He didn’t leave, Mol. He also didn’t tell us anything beyond that you were a little upset and wanted some space. Want to talk about it?”

“I… will tell you one day, I promise. I just… I really need to process everythin’ first. Is that okay?”

“Of course it is. Take all the time you need.” She reached over and squeezed my hand.

The door opened and Hudson came back inside. “You’re awake.” He smiled.

You didn’t leave, the words hovered on the tip of my tongue, but instead I said, “I am.”

“Do you need anything? Something to drink, eat? Some headache pills?”

“Hudson.” The soft laughter that spilled from my lips felt good. “I’m fine.”

His expression said he didn’t believe me, but he didn’t argue. “I can give the two of you some privacy?”

“N-no,” I rushed out. “Stay, please.”

“Actually, it’s gettin’ really late.” Eva stood. “Me and Rafe are going to take the bunks so you guys can sleep in here.”

“No, you don’t have to do—”

“Relax, Molly girl. It’s all good.” Hudson winked and a shiver ran down my spine.

Although we’d already shared a bed together—for the entire stay at Long Island—I didn’t want him to think that because we were sharing a bed together tonight, here on the tour bus, that anything was going to happen. Because I wasn’t ready. Not for that.

“Don’t look so worried.” A slight smirk played on his lips, and strangely, it settled some of the nerves bubbling in my stomach.

“Okay, then, if you’re okay, I’m goin’ to… go.” Eva gave me a knowing look, and I flushed.

“We’re not—”

“I know. But I’m glad Hudson is here to take care of you. Get some rest. I’ll see you in the mornin’ when we should be in Italy.”

“Good night.”

Eva left, taking the air with her. At least, that’s how it felt. The tension so taut I was sure it would snap at any moment.

“What now?” I asked, immediately regretting how suggestive I sounded. “Crap, I didn’t mean—”

“Relax, babe.” Hudson chuckled, grabbing the hem of his t-shirt and tugging it over his body.
